At just 22, Taylor Swift tops Billboard’s Top 40 Money Makers list of 2012, trumping the likes of U2, Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne, earning a reported $35,719,902 in 2011.
Released in October 2010, Swift’s third album, Speak Now, sold approximately 1,047,000 units in its first week. As of 2012, the album has been certified quadruple platinum by the RIAA, selling 4,005,000 copies in the U.S. Its accompanying tour, which played 112 shows worldwide, grossed $88.5 million in the U.S. alone, according to Billboard.
In addition to netting $29.8 million from her tour, Swift’s songwriting abilities helped propel her to the top of the list. The six-time Grammy winner penned all 14 songs on Speak Now. The album sold 7.8 million digital tracks last year.
