You may be wondering why I have used such an odd quotation as a title for this blog post. I’m going to talk about emotion in art/photography and about  how much of oneself you can put into a picture. For example Diane Arbus was a gifted photographer from a privileged background and yet her work centred around portraits of people considered oddities and freaks. Her work addressed them almost tenderly and with succinct understanding. Arbus always felt like an outsider and thus many (including myself) have thence concluded that her studies of people are indirect self portraits showing her alienation through other peoples circumstances. Arbus ended her own life just as her work was getting recognised and popular which is a tradegy and yet it highlights the problems faced by many creative people. Many of us are crippled by our constant worries and distrust that our work is good…
